She's No Punxsutawney Phil...

Roxy the Rock Squirrel steps out to give her own prediction.

My Rock Squirrel, Roxy, got a head start on old Phil and stepped out early to give her forecast on Jan. 25th. What the hell does an east coast groundhog know about the weather out west anyway. She predicts 6 more weeks of winter and is acting accordingly - stashing away a #%$-load of peanuts.

Baby Rock Squirrels!

Since when do we have squirrels in Phoenix? I grew up here in the 70's and I don't think I ever saw a squirrel. Now that I'm living in Mesa, we have Rock Squirrels, just hanging out in the backyard like they own the place. But they are awfully cute, where ever they came from. So we put out raw in-shell peanuts and have fun watching them at the feeders.

This spring we have been blessed with 2 adorable baby squirrels.

Tucson - Agua Caliente Park - Wake Up with the Birds Every Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.. Join this guided birding walk in the desert oasis of Agua Caliente Park to look for summer birds of the Sonoran Desert such as warblers,
flycatchers, hummingbirds, orioles, vireos and other resident specialties. Binoculars are available for use. Online registration now required, $5 fee. Red Rock State Park in Sedona - Wednesday & Saturday Bird Walks - June - August: Walk starts at 7am - Bird enthusiasts can join a naturalist for a “Guided Bird Walk”. Beginning as well as advanced birders are welcome. Rangers recommend that visitors bring their own binoculars. The bird-feeding area behind the visitor center, on the Hummingbird Patio, is an excellent spot to start your tour or to take pictures. Hummingbirds are almost always there to take advantage of the feeders! Another good viewing point is the visitor center roof. Most of the year-round birds are found in the riparian area next to Oak Creek or along the field that is behind the visitor center. March - May: Walk starts at 8am, June - August: Walk starts at 7am, September - November: Walk starts at 8am, December - February: Walk starts at 9am

Sedona Bird Walks 7 am every Wednesday. Free Weekly Bird Walks in Sedona with Jay's Bird Barn! Tim will be leading free bird walks every Wednesday for Jay's Bird Barn. Limit 12 people – sign up in the store or by calling 928.203.5700 Don’t own binoculars? Let us know and we will provide you with binoculars to use during the bird walk. Summer walk hours are 7am – 11am. We'll meet at the Sedona store – 2360 Hwy 89A, Suite B-1 (at Safeway Shopping Center).
